In a truly sickening use of donor money, Stan paid $4,300.00 for a custom built desk. He could have spent $1,000.00 and bought a complete and beautiful office suite from Office Depot....but no...he had to spend thousands of dollars of donor money to have a custom desk built. One donor to Stan Telchin Ministries, upon learning of this expenditure pondered; "How many missionaries could have been supported on the foreign field with the money used for this desk?" ON NEVER SEEKING BOARD APPROVAL FOR LARGE EXPENDITURES... "He spent $4,300 for his desk. Not illegal, but excessive. Not only was it custom built, but was half empty, and some sections contained personal records. In addition, he wanted to spend $2,200 for matching 'shelves' which I would not approve. He never asked the board for approval on large expenditures; he just made them. At this time, he also spent $2,175 for office tile and over $3,000 for the Mac computer. Most well-run organizations require a second signature or board approval for large expenditures. In addition, he disguised the expense for the desk by lumping it into a category called 'office furnishings' in his report to the board." Treasurer and board member, from his report, November, 2002 |
