QUESTION 6: |
Stan will be speaking at my church - what should I do? |
|
ANSWER 6: |
Over the last several years, I have been taken by surprise at the number of emails, letters and phone calls like yours. These letters have come from all over the U.S. and several from overseas and have not just been limited to church members, as many have come from pastors of churches too, where he was scheduled to speak. I agree with you that under the current circumstances it is not appropriate for my father to be assuming any public position of spiritual leadership. You are not the first person from a church Stan has been scheduled to speak in, to contact me and let me know that he is appearing in your church. Others share your concerns. I would suggest you do the following: 1. Prayerfully take your concerns directly to your pastor and let him know how you feel about Stan appearing in your church. Give your pastor this website and encourage him to contact me directly. I will be prepared to send him the relevant documents in support of this website. In particular, print out this section and give it to your pastor. Many pastors have said that this is the most helpful section on this website. 2. My father has worked as a staff missionary with Jews for Jesus for several years. It is possible Stan was scheduled to speak in your church by Jews for Jesus. In this case, I don't think Jews for Jesus scheduled him but if that is the case, not only should you take your concerns to your pastor, you should also take your concerns directly to Jews for Jesus. Again, point out this website and encourage them to contact me directly, letting them know I will send all the relevant documents in support of this website. To date, Jews for Jesus has never once spoken to me about this. 3. I would also encourage you to write a letter directly to Stan and raise your concerns with him. 4. I would ask you to pray diligently for Stan and for our families. I have not seen nor heard from my father in over five years. He refuses all contact with me even to the point of returning my mail unopened and marked 'refused.' The Bible calls for those in spiritual leadership to meet a very high standard. It really is not appropriate for my father to be assuming public spiritual leadership until such time as the many controversies surrounding him and the allegations that have been made by multiple parties are resolved in a Biblical and Christ-honoring manner. I hope my answer helps you. |
